Johannes Vermeer
1632-1675
We - a set of New York, London and Paris high schoolers - met in Amsterdam to visit the first ever collection of Vermeer’s work in one place. Pieces were lent out from museums and galleries all around the world with the US possessing and lending out more ‘Vermeers’ than any other country.
While technically not a NY City Art Crawl visit, I include it in this section in honor of the city that gave New York its first name; see New Amsterdam…

Personal Moments
What a privilege touring the exhibition with art historian and Holland’s Golden Age authority, Dr. Mariët Westermann.
We learnt so much about Vermeer’s personal and artistic circumstances, his technique and the logistics of pulling together this once-in-multiple-lifetimes exhibition.
We also reunited with old friends, and took advantage of the many attractions of the beautiful city of Amsterdam.
